Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 3.5-4.5 cups whole wheat flour divided
  • 2 tablespoons instant yeast
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups warm milk about 105-110 F
  • 6 tablespoons butter at room temperature
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Instructions
 

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  • Combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, honey, salt, warm milk, 6 tablespoons butter, and egg in a bowl. Mix on low until combined.
  • Add flour gradually until the dough is smooth, slightly sticky, and pulls away from the bowl.
  • Knead for 2 minutes, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm spot.
  • Divide dough into 24 rolls, place in the pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden, then brush with melted butter.

Notes

For softer rolls, let them rise a bit longer before baking.
