Ingredients
  

Yeast and Sweetener

  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 2 tbsp honey (or sugar)
  • 1/4 cup water (warmed)

Main Dough

  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Mix warm water, yeast, and honey; let foam. If no foam, do not proceed.
  • Combine yeast mixture with milk, butter, egg, salt, and 5 cups flour. Mix and add more flour until dough pulls away from bowl.
  • Knead for 7-10 minutes until smooth. Let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  • Divide dough, shape into logs, place in pans, and let rise for another hour.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 minutes. Optional: brush with butter.
