Ingredients
  

Topping

  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar firmly packed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • pinch salt

Muffin Batter

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional but recommended
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chopped toasted pecans

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare muffin pan.
  • Make praline topping by mixing brown sugar, melted butter, cream, pecans, and salt; set aside.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Mix melted butter, sugars, eggs, milk, and vanilla; combine with dry ingredients and fold in pecans.
  • Divide batter into muffin cups, add praline topping, and bake for 18–22 minutes.
  • Cool muffins in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra crunch, toast the pecans before chopping.
