Ingredients
  

Dough and Batter

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

Chocolate Mousse

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven and prepare cake layers by mixing dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately, then combine and bake.
  • Mix heavy cream, chocolate, sugar, and vanilla to make the mousse filling.
  • Assemble the cake by layering the baked cake with the mousse filling, then chill to set.
