Ingredients
  

Fruits

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (preferably tart varieties like Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Topping

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • a pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Mix apples with maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; spread in baking dish.
  • Combine oats, pecans, flour, sugar, butter, and salt; sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake for 45 minutes until topping is golden and apples are bubbly.
  • Cool slightly before serving, optionally with ice cream.

Notes

For extra crunch, add a handful of chopped nuts on top before baking.
