Ingredients
  

Berry Mixture

  • 4 cups blackberries (fresh or thawed frozen)
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar (for berries)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Mix blackberries with sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice; set aside.
  • Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; stir in milk and vanilla to make batter.
  • Pour melted butter into dish, then add batter without stirring.
  • Spread blackberry mixture over batter; do not mix.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly; cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
