A delicious twist on classic cinnamon rolls, these red velvet pastries combine the warmth of cinnamon with the vibrant color of red velvet, topped with a creamy frosting.
Mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let the mixture sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. Spread with brown sugar and cinnamon mixture, then sprinkle with chocolate chips if using.
Roll the dough tightly, cut into 8 equal pieces, and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Prepare the frosting by beating cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Spread over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
Let the dough rise longer for a fluffier texture. For an extra sweet treat, drizzle with additional powdered sugar glaze after frosting.
