Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 1/2 cup warm water 110℉
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast traditional yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water 110℉
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme *
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil *
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano *
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese or Grana Padano
  • 2 1/2-2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Garlic Herb Topping

  • 1/4 cup salted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese or Grana Padano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions
 

  • Mix yeast, sugar, and warm water; let sit 10 minutes until frothy.
  • Combine warm water, melted butter, salt, herbs, spices, and 2 cups of flour; add yeast mixture and remaining flour; knead until smooth.
  • Let dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for 1 hour until doubled.
  • Divide dough into 18 pieces, shape into breadsticks, and let rise 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350℉. Bake breadsticks for 10 minutes, brush with garlic butter, then bake another 7-12 minutes until golden.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle with additional herbs or cheese before baking.
