  • 0.5 cup melted unsalted butter (still hot)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Dry ingredients

  • 0.666 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.666 cup powdered sugar see note
  • 0.75 cup all purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 8x8 or 9x9 pan with parchment or foil, leaving overhang.
  • Combine hot melted butter and sugar; let sit 5 minutes, then whisk vigorously for 30 seconds. Add eggs, water, vanilla, and whisk again.
  • Mix in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, flour, salt until glossy. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, smooth top, and bake for 28-33 minutes (8x8) or 18-23 minutes (9x9). Cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a shinier crust, let the sugar and butter sit before whisking. Do not overbake for fudgy texture.
