Instructions

  • Add ingredients: Mix salt, butter, milk, and half the flour; add egg and remaining flour to form a shaggy dough.
  • Knead dough: Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  • First rise: Let dough rise in a greased bowl until doubled, about 1-1.5 hours.
  • Shape and second rise: Shape into loaf, place in pan, and let rise until about 1 inch above the pan, 45-60 minutes.
  • Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden. Cool before slicing.
