Instructions
Drain the tomatoes and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Add broth, brown sugar, onion powder, and basil; stir gently.
Cover loosely and microwave for 5 minutes. Let sit for 3-4 minutes, then add butter and stir until melted.
Puree the soup with an immersion blender until smooth. Transfer to bowls.
Garnish with a drizzle of cream and a basil leaf if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
For a richer flavor, simmer the soup on the stove instead of microwaving.
