  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder (optional for slight lift)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8x8-inch pan.
  • Mix melted butter and sugar until smooth, then add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  • Stir in cocoa powder, then fold in flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips if using, then pour batter into the pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool before slicing.

Notes

For extra fudginess, slightly underbake and let cool completely.
