Ingredients
  

Protein

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

Breading

  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder

Seasoning

  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup cold water

Frying Oil

  • as needed Vegetable oil for frying

Sauce

  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger or ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) for heat
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with water (optional, for thickening)

Garnish

  • to taste Sesame seeds, chopped green onions

Instructions
 

  • Mix cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Dip chicken pieces into beaten egg and water mixture, then coat with the dry mixture.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan and fry coated chicken until golden and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  • In a saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.
  • Add cornstarch mixed with water to thicken the sauce if desired. Toss fried chicken in the sauce until well coated.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, double fry the chicken.
