Bread

  • 10 oz challah or brioche, torn into 2-inch pieces
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 0.33 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (divided)
  • 6 large eggs eggs
  • 2.5 cups whole milk
  • 0.25 cup maple syrup, plus more for serving
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • Pinch salt salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9x13-inch dish.
  • Mix cream cheese, brown sugar, and 1 tsp cinnamon until smooth.
  • Toss bread with cream cheese mixture to coat evenly.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, melted butter, remaining cinnamon, and salt; pour over bread.
  • Let sit 20 minutes or chill overnight; bake for 40–45 minutes until puffed and golden.
  • Cool for 5 minutes, then serve with extra maple syrup.

Notes

For a richer flavor, sprinkle with powdered sugar or add fresh berries before serving.
