Ingredients
  

Dried Goods

  • 1 cup quick-cooking or rolled oats preferably a 50-50 mix
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa or cacao powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Liquids

  • 2 cups non-dairy milk
  • 1-2 tablespoons grade A maple syrup *
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-ins

  • 1-2 tablespoons chia seeds or ground flax
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chocolate or chocolate chips

Toppings

  • fresh fruit, nut butter, etc. optional

Instructions
 

  • Add oats, cocoa powder, and salt to a pan over medium heat. Mix well.
  • Pour in milk, add maple syrup, vanilla, and chia seeds. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Divide into bowls, top with chocolate and desired toppings. Serve fresh.

Notes

This oatmeal thickens as it cools, so reheat with a splash of water or non-dairy milk if needed.
