Wet Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup sour cream for moisture
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped preferably granny smith

Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • a pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  • Whisk together dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
  • Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, then add eggs and vanilla.
  • Gradually mix in dry ingredients and sour cream, then fold in chopped apples.
  • Prepare crumb topping and sprinkle over the batter, then bake for 55-65 minutes.
  • Make the drizzle with melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and milk, then drizzle over cooled cake.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a mix of different apple varieties.
