Ingredients
1
cup
water
(110F)
1
pinch
powdered ginger
(optional - activates yeast)
1
cup
milk
(110F)
2/3
cup
sugar
(you can use less)
1 1/2
tablespoons
active dry yeast
1 1/2
teaspoons
salt
1/4
cup
vegetable oil
(coconut oil works really well here (melt it first and let it cool to 100F)! OR use melted butter)
5-1/2
cups
bread flour
(you may need a little more or a little less)
2
tablespoons
butter
(melted)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, powdered ginger, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast is activated.
Add milk, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
Gradually add the bread flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
For best results, use bread flour and avoid overmixing the dough. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for optimal results.
